At Topcliffe Primary School , we regard the safeguarding of children as our main priority. We believe that we all have the right to be happy, to be safe and to learn. We all have the responsibility to make this happen.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed on our policies page or in the documents section at the bottom of this page.
We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in safeguarding and Child Protection, and are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Information Sharing
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
Operation Encompass
With effect from September 2021, Topcliffe Primary School will be taking part in a joint operation involving Birmingham Children’s Trust, Birmingham City Council, and West Midlands Police. This will formally be known as Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass has been established to help schools provide in-school support to children who have been present at, exposed to or involved in any domestic abuse incident.
If you have any concerns about the safety and/or well-being of any child or young person , you can contact school or telephone the Children’s Advice and Support Service (CASS) on 0121 303 1888. If you believe a child is at risk of immediate harm you should call 999.
